    Annoyance
Seriously. WTF is going on?! There is a helicopter circling a very small radius around my house in Burien. I'm getting very annoyed, as it's gone on for at least 10 minutes now...round and round...

NO. I haven't googled. I'm just here to vent.

Make it stop. I'm going mad!

    So very very tired
Just a quick note. Worked today from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm on my feet the entire time dealing with people flying in for Essence fest. Don't know if there's more work for me tomorrow or not--will hear tomorrow, I hope.

Went to baseball game, which was good but my butt doesn't fit well in the seats and I was very uncomfortable. I had a beer and started to fade fast. Left with my friends when a promising tie-breaking end-of-inning at-bat was turned into a farce by a brilliant fake-out by the opposing pitcher that caught a runner off third base and resulted in a tragic run-down. Not even the promise of fireworks could keep me there.

Came home where I discovered my period has started. Oh, well that would explain the back pain, then.

Now, Craig Ferguson and then bed.

[personal] July 3rd at the beach

Worked the Day Jobbe, spent a bunch of time in the small room, went out for a Mexican lunch, wrote almost 1,000 words on “The Forests of the Night”, hit the beach twice, once for sunshine and once for fireworks.

A good enough day. I shan’t need to send it to the Returns Desk after all.

    The inevitable photo:

    Fancy Gift Wrap in Seattle?

I'm looking for some high quality glossy black and white toile gift wrap. Pretty specific, I know. I'll be in Seattle in a few days for a day trip and I was wondering if anybody here knew of maybe a fancy stationary store that might carry such a thing.

    Thanks. I appreciate it!

    New publication
In a fit of writing yesterday and today, I produced another new article for MSN Tech & Gadgets. Here it is:

    Boutique Blogs
    Fair metronaturals,

In an effort to streamline my consumption habits and my quest to become the ultimate Seattle dandy, I'm seeking out any and all cool clothing boutiques in the Seattle area, preferably those with a blog to syndicate but it's fine if they don't. This is kind of a project of mine so any tip would be useful. Doesn't matter if they're male or female as I'm a transsexual.

So far I found Blackbird in Ballard, Ian in Belltown/Fremont, Winner's Circle in Cap Hill, Impulse in Fremont, Atlas in Cap Hill... I know there's that skater mens shop over on Pike next to Victrola, ahhh, man, what else...

stores, websites that cover this info, anything would help... ty <3

Wondering why the 520 commute sucks today?
A shuttle bus caught fire on the westbound side, near 92nd. Everyone on the bus appeared unharmed, but the firemen were still hosing it off when we passed by.

Curse the surplus of mosquitos this year!
I want a solar LED bug zapper, and I don't want to order it off of The Internet. So far I have asked The Google, checked Lowes, and I am about to go check Home Depot (I am not expecting much success there). Do you have any suggestions? have you seen them for sale?

A good colorist... who will remove all pigment.
I checked memories first, but found nothing specific to what I am looking for.

Can anyone recommend a good salon and or stylist in Seattle that specializes in platinum blond?

I have blond hair already, but want someone good who wont fry my hair or turn it yellow. I would like to avoid spending more than $200.00. That is more than I really want to pay, but am willing; to avoid unsatisfactory results.

Can't We All Just Get Along?
In the last year, or so, my social landscape has become increasingly dotted with landmines. A number of the people I know and hold dear are Not Friends Anymore. With each other, I mean. And in pretty much every case, I like all the parties concerned and have not the smallest interest in chosing one over the other, playing favorites, or otherwise reverting to Jr. High social dynamics.

So all this falling out among former friends, lovers, and partners makes me feel sad, inadequate, and dreadfully, dreadfully awkward. I don't really know what to do, when I'm organizing a frimbrezzling expedition, and start assembling a participant list in my head, and then get pulled up short because Ferd and Flossie are both long-time ardent frimbrezzlers, to whom I owe many a brezzled frim, but they're not currently speaking to each other. Furthermore Dolly loves frimbrezzling, and Doris has never been, but would like to try it. Only ever since the blow-up, you can't get the two of them into the same room. Should I invite everybody, and warn them of the guest list, and let them decide? Do I just leave Dolly, Doris, Ferd, and Flossie all off the invitation list and let them draw their own conclusions should they hear about it afterwards? Should I organize two frimbrezzling expeditions, with two different guest lists? Should I just give up on this whole stupid frimbrezzling business and take up a solitary hobby?

The whole thing also makes me angry. I've watched other friends actively disinvite one friend from major events, to make another more comfortable. What the hell? I want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable, but I find it really hard to avoid resenting both the friends doing the disinviting, and the person whose behalf the disinvitation was issued. I think it's a crappy way of handling the whole thing. Except that I don't have a good positive model to substitute for it.

I dunno. Maybe I should write a letter to Miss Manners. Surely there's got to be some extant social etiquette for dealing with your post-divorce friends in a sensitive and loving way? In the mean time, if I put my unbrezzled frims up for sale on craigslist, you'll know why.

Yeah, there are worse problems to have, and yeah, I recognize that other people's pain is not All About Me, but dammit, a happy and well-functioning social network is a precious resource, and there have got to be ways of protecting and nurturing that network, even when some of the nodes drop their connections. Is there a guidebook?

    FYI: capitol hill power outage
Power went out throughout a wide swath of Capitol Hill at 8:53 AM, with 4100 customers affected. According to Seattle City Light, the outage is due to a tree that fell on a power line at Republican and Bellmont. Repair crews are on the scene, but they don't currently have any estimates on how long it will take to fix.

    Anyone have newer information?

Edited to add: Service does appear to have been restored.

Did anyone else catch the Seattle pictures in the bumps during last night's Oblongs?

One was the "baggage area" door at Union Station and the other was the signs for the US-99 [sic] onramp downtown (edited to say "SWIMBOUND" instead of "SOUTHBOUND").

I know, I know, pics or it didn't happen.

Update: It happened, for reals now.

Let me see if I've got this right: Now that the Republicans have nominated the one major figure in their party who didn't dodge Vietnam, military experience is and always has been the essential qualification for the presidency. Scalzi notes how that meme has played out in recent elections.

    Dear Former Supersonics
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. As long as we get to keep the Storm for [info]shikzoid's sake, Oklahoma City can have you with my cheeriest blessings. More parking for us.

And I hear you're in the market for a new name. How about "The Bombers"?

    Counting
One painful, annoying chest cold. I sound like a two packs a day smoker.
Two cats who are daily more affectionate, relaxed, amusing companions.
Three day weekend! Thank god, because I'm still exhausted from vacation.
Four stories in progress which are the best things I've ever written.
Five days to get my photo entered into the San Mateo County Fair exhibit.
Six rosebushes that are no longer blooming. Must fertilize and water soon.
Seven more months of paying off my debt and then I am free free free!
Eight hours of sleep is once again a misty dream. I'm lucky to get six.
Nine loads of laundry. Now I need to wash the chair and sofa covers. Ugh.

It's Cinema Day at Scarlett Letters
Received the following from an e-mail list I'm on: Key scenes from Fritz Lang's 'Metroplis' have been discovered.

Summary: A long version of the film has been found; it's genuine; it's in good enough condition to be fully restored. The article doesn't say how much of the film's lost footage has been rediscovered, but it's a huge find and apparently changes some key things about the film. Exciting. Very exciting indeed.

Thursday: In lieu of actual content
I've been so blue the last day or two that I haven't got much to say, but I saw this last night and had to share it: Hellboy meets the Ghost Hunters.

ETA: [info]stannex has posted several more Hellboy crossover promos, including a PSA, two featuring the main character from "Chuck," and two that are "Inside the Actor's Studio" parodies that are brilliant. He's also got the trailer for "The Day the Earth Stood Still" which, remarkably, does bear watching.

    [personal] A little more updatery

Beach is cold and foggy. So am I. It was a rather difficult night, and that’s enough said about that.

There appears to be some extremely cool Escapement Amazon ] news forthcoming. Once it comes forth in a confirmable fashion, I will share.

Working today, then hanging with the family and writing. Omaha has been having some spectacularly bad weather. Next week’s travel may be interesting. In the mean time, I shall do what I always do and enjoy myself right where I am.
